A Classera alternative for schools, universities and training teams

Classera is a well-known education platform in the Middle East and Africa. If you are comparing options, this page sets out the needs Ilmoria is built for, the situations where Classera may be the better choice, and what moving between platforms usually involves.

About Classera

Classera is an education technology company founded in 2012 and established in Silicon Valley, with its main focus on the Middle East and Africa. Its platform combines a learning management system that uses gamification and AI with related products, including an ERP for educational institutions, a payments service and a corporate training platform. Classera works with ministries of education, private K-12 schools, universities and companies. In 2022 it raised a Series A round led by Sanabil Investments, which is owned by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, and in 2024 it acquired Expert Solutions, an education ERP provider.

When Classera may suit you better

  • You are planning a national or ministry-level rollout and want a provider with experience of working with education ministries in the region.
  • You want one vendor for a wider school ERP, including HR, procurement and inventory.
  • Gamification and augmented reality are central to your learning approach.

Why teams look for an alternative

You run self-paced courses with individual timelines

Each learner has a start date and a target completion date, can pause or withdraw, and works with a mentor, with academic breaks built in.

You want several schools or units under one account, each with its own identity

Separate branding, web address, users and data for each, with central reporting across them.

You want peer-reviewed discussions and integrity-monitored exams together

Discussions with submission, peer-review and grading phases, plus exams that score every attempt for integrity.

You want your staff to control the Arabic wording

Every screen is in Arabic and English, and your team can correct any Arabic interface text to match your own terms.

Moving from Classera

Switching from Classera follows the same steps as any LMS move. Prepare users, courses and grades as CSV files, from your current platform's exports or your own records, and import them into Ilmoria. Upload files, videos and PDFs, then rebuild lessons and assessments in the course builder; there is no automatic importer for Classera content. Pilot with one grade, programme or business unit for a term, then train teachers, office staff, parents or managers before the full launch.

Questions buyers ask

Does Ilmoria support Arabic as fully as English?

Yes. Every screen is available in both languages, and each user can switch at any time. Arabic is fully right-to-left, and your staff can correct any Arabic interface wording so it matches the terms your institution uses. Text that people write themselves, such as lessons and messages, is never translated automatically.

Can we run self-paced courses?

Yes. Ilmoria grew out of the platform used by Ithraa School, an online school with self-paced courses for grades 9–12. Each student has an enrolment start date and a target completion date, can pause or withdraw, and works with a mentor. Academic breaks are built into the calendar, and parents follow progress throughout.

Can Ilmoria handle school payments?

Yes. Each student has invoices and receipts, with payment methods such as cash, bank transfer, card, cheque or online payment, and statuses including unpaid, paid, overdue, grace period and hold. Parents see and print them in the parent portal. Online payment gateways can be connected on request.

Can Ilmoria also run corporate training?

Yes. Each business unit runs as its own “school”, departments and teams become sections, and training programmes are courses. Employees are enrolled automatically by team, take compliance quizzes with integrity monitoring and receive QR-verifiable certificates. Read more about corporate training on Ilmoria.

Can we keep our grade history when we switch?

Yes. Historical grades can be imported as CSV files so they sit with each student's record in Ilmoria. It is also sensible to keep a full export from your previous platform as an archive. Starting at the beginning of a term or academic year keeps the current year's grades in one place.
